Go over to their water bowl. Look at it. Is it clean? Great. Stick you finger in it and feel the bottom of the container, especially the corners. Feel something slimey? Not great. Please clean it. Scrub it if you have to. That slime harbors bacteria. You don’t want to drink out of something dirty, I don’t think your animals want to either. Thank you for your cooperation.
In addition, those lovely fountains with the filters? They need to be cleaned max every 4 days. You can’t just top them up and leave it at that. They get slimey too. Carbon filters do not mean the water stays clean. Please wash the entire thing and replace all the water.
We wash ours every few days but also throw it in the dishwasher to sanitize.
We also add a splash of apple cider vinegar which our vet recommended.

A few years ago I went to pick up a woman I met on OKCupid for a date, and a friend of hers was there. They kind of over-explained “Oh, she just showed up to say hi” and there was a vague nervousness in the air that even my autistic ass was picking up on. Her friend was playing conspicuously with her phone. I went “Ah, the safety. Need to get a picture?”
Dead silence for about a second and a half, then the friend took a picture, looked at my date, and said “Have fun” and walked out the door.
(I would ordinarily have been clueless, but I’d just been asked to be the safety the previous night.)
My advice to male-presenting folks: recognize that this not your problem. By which I mean, this sort of security check isn’t a problem for you. It doesn’t hurt you. You aren’t being insulted or disrespected. And if you treat it like what it is– a reasonable adaptation to an unreasonable situation– and just roll with it, your dates will be more comfortable, and you will have a better time as a result.
The same applies to phone calls mid-date. Let them answer the damn phone without drama.

literally though if you feel like your life is slipping through your fingers and every day goes too fast… try doing hard things, not just taking the easy route, like reading and making art and exercising and cooking a meal from scratch and journaling, doing these things without distraction, without being absorbed on a screen… the time will stretch and you’ll be reminded that life is long and beautiful if you make it so.
The threat that we won’t have new shows and movies coming out because of the strikes would hit a little harder if 99.9% of everything coming out wasn’t God awful derivative schlock that you watch once and immediately forget.
